We arrived in Marco Island around dinner time, so once we hit the resort we grabbed dinner and then walked on the beach at sunset. The girls loved it. The next morning they of course woke up early and wanted to just walk out the door and hit the beach...they were so excited. Sadly, they had to wait for mom and dad to get ready first!
Sand and water, two of Lauren's favorite things. She was in her element on the beach. The girls enjoyed searching for special shells. By the first hour, they had collected so many that they wanted to take back to Dallas with us...that we had to narrow it down and pick the "most special" ones. Chris is very artistic and creative. He began making a sand sculpture of a shark with the girls eager help. The next day I had mentioned trying to make a mermaid. So Chris began his second masterpiece! He decided we should cover the mermaids body with sea shells. This was about a 2 hour family event...finding the shells, (with a reddish-pink color to them so they would show up), washing the sand off in the ocean, and placing them on the mermaid. Whew! Exhausting...back and forth. There is a picture of Lauren walking with her hand out as she says, "Need more shells!" As I took a break :)
and watched this activity, it was pretty funny to watch the other dads close by(the beach was VERY crowded) slaving away at their attempt of sand castle or just a big hole in the sand. One little boy kept walking over to Chris' work in progress just looking...didn't say anything...just looked. Then he'd walk back over to his dad and just look. Didn't seem too thrilled with his dad's artwork as he kept coming back by to admire Chris and the girls. Poor guy, couldn't compete with Pitt. The mermaid was too cool...complete with wavy hair...small white sea shells for a necklace and bracelet...and "flower" in her hair. Several people walking by on the beach stopped to admire. Too fun. You do good work, daddy!
We generally spent from about 9am until 3ish on the beach/pool until the afternoon storms rolled in. The girls kept wanting to go to the pool, but we asked them to enjoy more time on the beach since we do not have the ocean at our disposal in Dallas! We usually cooled off in the pool after lunch.
We could not be more pleased with our first vacation as a family. Although we are all exhausted, the girls did great and we look forward to returning next year!
