We headed to the ranch this past weekend and had a wonderful time. I'm not sure who enjoys the ranch more...the girls or their daddy! As we head out, Anna mentions that a boy in class asked her what kind of animals she sees on the way to the ranch...so she sits poised and ready with notebook and pencil in hand to make a tally chart of what we see. All the way to the ranch, she very carefully watched for animals and worked on her chart. It came to be a family effort and every pasture we passed someone would say, "Cows...1...5.....8.....14" Think we got them all?" Every now and then we had to "guestimate" there were so many. Lauren was even in on the act getting very excited saying, "Anna, look. More sheeps!" Very cute. We saw antelope at one point and Lauren remembered as she stood on the ledge overlooking the ranch with Grandaddy Pittman and said, "Look, I see deer and canteloupe!!!" Or rather, (c)antelope. She gets so excited when we drive around the land in the truck with windows down, wind blowing in her hair, and no seat belt! She loves it. We came across lots of deer, pigs, cows, etc. Very exciting. Of course, Chris can give the detailed name of every one, but we'll stick with "deer" for now. Every time we came across an animal, Lauren would say, "oooohh, so sweet!" Sorry daddy, I don't think she's going to be your "hunter"!Also, Anna caught another fish. It's "effortless" for her. Every time we have been at the ranch, she catches a fish. We have a picture of her standing with Chris holding it. The way she's positioned, it looks like her entire forearm is in the fish's mouth. Hysterical. She took it to school to show her friends. Of course, daddy is proud of his "fisherwoman". It's as close to having boys as he's going to get!!! Lauren was not as successful in her fishing experience. I happened to be enjoying a book on the porch when she greeted me back from her adventure with daddy. She very seriously told me, "My pishing hole...in the water...bottom of lake." She looked very sad. She usually does very well casting out (great form!), but this time was not so lucky. Maybe next time darlin'.
All in all, a great time with family and friends. The fact that mommy actually had about an hour in charge of no one in which to enjoy a book was certainly a highlight! Thanks daddy!

LOL! Mary ~ loved the ranch stories. Tell Anna that her cousins Skyler and Hannah are also excellent fisherwomen! I so miss the smell of the outdoors on a TEXAS ranch ~ can't wait to hear more ~ Lace
good ranch stories. so very Texas! makes me happy to read that since i only hear about walldorf and san fran at work. i like that change of pace at a ranch and especially with kid stories. they bring such a new view to everything. :)
